I Tried Medicube’s Kojic Acid Turmeric Night Wrapping Mask—And It Surprised Me

Despite being let down by other trendy overnight masks, I gave Medicube’s kojic acid-powered collagen wrapping mask a try. Here’s my honest review and if it’s worth your money.

I know, I know. After my underwhelming (to put it mildly) experience with the Biodance Collagen Mask, you’d think I’d have learned my lesson, and stopped believing the hype around collagen masks that promise an overnight glass skin glow, but really just clog my pores and break my spirit.

So why, oh why, am I back subjecting myself to possible collagen mask agony once more? Well, you can blame Medicube’s new Night Wrapping Mask for that. Formulated with kojic acid and turmeric—two powerhouse brightening ingredients—this mask had me intrigued like no other collagen-based mask has in a while.

Did the Medicube Kojic Acid Turmeric Night Wrapping Mask finally surprise me, or was I left disappointed once more? Let’s find out.

How The Medicube Mask Differs from Other Collagen Masks

Most of the popular collagen masks rely heavily on…well, collagen (which doesn’t actually penetrate the skin when applied topically) and some really basic hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, or if you’re lucky, ceramides—all of which you’d find in a half decent hydrating toner or moisturizer. Honestly, you’d probably get the same or better results from just layering your toner, or slathering on a thick layer of your moisturizer.

Medicube themselves have a Collagen Night Wrapping Mask made with similar ingredients, that didn’t interest me in the least. But this one? This one made me do a double take because it wasn’t leading with collagen as the hero. Instead, it spotlighted kojic acid and turmeric, two ingredients with actual, science-backed brightening and anti-inflammatory powers.

  • Kojic acid: A potent tyrosinase inhibitor, kojic acid blocks melanin production at the source to help fade dark spots

  • Turmeric: Used in ancient Ayurvedic skincare to reduce inflammation, fight acne, brighten the complexion, and slow down premature aging.

Additionally, the formula also contains a low concentration of vitamin C and retinol. That shift in focus—from basic hydration to actual skin tone support with good, effective skincare ingredients—was what made me think, “Okay, Medicube. I see you. Let’s see what you’ve got.”

First Impressions

Unlike the Biodance Collagen Mask, which comes in the form of a sheet-mask like product that didn’t quite fit perfectly around my nose (seriously, has anyone without a dainty little nose found one that fits properly?), Medicube’s mask is a gel that’s smooth, spreadable, and blissfully moldable to your actual face.

The gel dries within minutes, after which, you don’t have to worry about slippage, realignment, or the inability to move your face for hours. What I loved most was the texture, which felt very lightweight on my skin, compared to the more creamy and collagen heavy formula of the previous mask. The mask does start tugging a little bit as it dries, so don’t be surprised if you feel some tightness as time goes on.

Like most collagen masks, this mask is technically designed to be worn overnight, and I can imagine it would be easier to sleep in since it won’t fall off your face if you’re a frequent turner like me. But I value my sleep too much to risk it for a mask again (trust me, I’ve made that mistake before), so I opted to wear the Medicube mask for a few hours before bed instead.

Here’s what happened.

My Honest Review of the Medicube Kojic Acid Turmeric Night Wrapping Mask (Unsponsored!)

Before we get to the review, let me just say that this peel off experience is one of the most satisfying skincare moments I’ve had in a while. BUT, I’m not going to let that cloud my judgment. How did this mask actually perform?

Well, I went in wanting to believe, expecting to be underwhelmed, and praying just not to break out. But after the very first time I peeled off the Medicube Kojic Acid & Turmeric Night Wrapping Mask, something unexpected happened: I actually saw a noticeable glow. Not a glycerin-sheen kind of hydration glow either. The kind where your skin looks just a bit brighter, and a bit more even.

But I wasn’t going to fall for these short-term results. No, I’d have to wait till the morning, or better yet, use it a few times before I made up my mind. As expected, the next morning, the glow wasn’t as fabulous, but it hadn’t completely gone away either. This gave me encouragement to try this mask a few more times before delivering a verdict.

Since then, I’ve been using this mask once or twice a week, or if I have an event I want to look extra glowy for, and each time it’s delivered. But here's the real kicker: no breakouts so far. Not even the tiny annoying kind that usually pop up around my forehead and chin!

Final Verdict: Is It Worth the Hype?

Is this mask going to replace my vitamin C or other brightening serums? Nope. Will I still recommend consistent, daily skincare over a weekly treatment like this? Hell yes! But, if I have the time, or just want an instant pick me up, will I be reaching for this mask again? I definitely wouldn’t rule out the possibility.

I don’t give out approval easily—especially to gimmicky collagen masks—but Medicube’s Kojic Acid & Turmeric Night Wrapping Mask won me over with it’s focus on ingredients that actually work to improve the tone of your skin, not just blast it with hydration.

Pros:

✅ Noticeable glow after first use

✅ Gel texture is lightweight, breathable, and won’t slide off your face

✅ Non-comedogenic (at least in my experience)—no clogged pores, or breakouts

✅ Contains a powerhouse mix of brightening ingredients that actually work

Cons:

❌ Results are still mostly temporary and don’t deliver lasting benefits like you’d get from consistent skincare

❌ Still technically an overnight mask, which can be uncomfortable to wear, or requires you to spend 3-4 hours in your day to use (and let’s be real, who has the time for that)

Overall, I can definitely see myself using this mask before major events, but putting 3-4 hours aside every week to use it is something I’m unlikely to continue doing.
